P002 → Me-Inside

By controlling our attention, we move through our sensorially diverse environment, find our way, learn new things, allow ourselves to be touched or pause and absorb. We react to a fraction of these influences in a self-determined way and focus on them, but a multitude is perceived in a passive way and processed by our subconscious, as confrontation takes up a lot of space. Making space for the unfamiliar costs energy, but in return creates ground for something new.

What gives a place its sound? In everyday life, we rarely differentiate between urban sounds. They fade into the background.
With his audio installation, Johannes Lucian Reck invites us to experience sound in a completely new way. His work explores the dynamic relationship

In his performance, various types of microphones explore the space at Werdplatz, capturing its acoustic character from different positions and heights. The resulting sounds shaped by the space’s personality and your presence are amplified, altered, and placed into new contexts.

Through the live processing of sound, space and audio merge into a fleeting identity that exists only in the moment. The artist distorts and transforms the sounds. Sound becomes material, space becomes an instrument, and audio becomes a medium.

The installation invites you to let go of control and open yourself to a new acoustic experience. The performance becomes not only audible, but also physically tangible. A dialogue between external input and personal interpretation.

In Johannes Reck‘s sound installation & performance, the complexity of the soundscape is placed at the centre and an experience is created in which through external influences this confrontation is stimulated. The telephone booth, a place where one‘s own voice is given acoustic space in a protected setting in a public space, offers a suitable space to contrast one‘s own patterns of perception with the newly created soundscape.

Remarks: The Performance Video gives a small insight into the 30 minutes Live-Perfromance. From 01:02 of the video file a stereo mixdown recording of the multichannel AmbiX can be heard, which tries to give some context to the site specific experience in the telephonebooth.
